Introduction of some guest speakers (list in no particular order)

GAO Fu

Chinese

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the Organizing Committee

Pathogenic microorganisms and immunologists, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences, foreign academician of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, academician of the African Academy of Sciences, foreign academician of the American Academy of Sciences, director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, vice-director of the 8th National Natural Science Foundation of China.

He graduated from Shanxi Agricultural University, studied at Beijing Agricultural University, and stayed as a teacher in it. He went to Oxford University to pursue a doctorate in biochemistry. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Calgary in Canada, Oxford University in England and Harvard Medical School in the United States. He has been a lecturer, laboratory director and doctoral supervisor at Oxford University in England.

His main research directions are inter-species transmission mechanism of pathogenic microorganisms and molecular immunology, mainly engaged in T cell recognition, stays on influenza virus and other cystic virus invasion molecular mechanism, avian influenza and other animal-derived pathogens interspecies transmission mechanism.

Thomas R. Gingeras

America

Director of functional genomics at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

Professor of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, former vice president of Affymetrix Company. Authors, teachers and lecturers, who have published more than 160 papers in numerous scientific journals. The cited author of the top 1% of articles in the past four years. Now he is the director and professor of functional genomics at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Thomas Gingeras and his colleagues studied where and how functional information is stored in the genome. These efforts help explain the biological and clinical effects of disease-causing gene mutations in humans and other organisms. Gingeras is the leader of the ENCODE (ENCyclopedia for DNA elements) and mouseENCODE and modENCODE (Model Genome ENCODE) projects at the National Institutes of Health.

His research has changed our understanding of the boundaries of traditional genes, revealing that almost all genomes, from bacteria to human organisms, can be transcribed into RNA (universal transcription),and most RNA products made by cells are not destined to be translated into proteins (non-coding or ncRNA).
